When registering a new domain you might decide to add domain privacy to hide your personal details. This is an optional upgrade that can be purchased when registering a domain. What does domain privacy do, and should you buy it?

There are some things you should be aware of (as a domain reseller we don’t have any control over the following):

  • Domain privacy is only available for individuals
  • For NZ domains, only the phone number and address of the individual are hidden (overseas WHOIS directories will generally also hide the name and email address, but they will still show in the DNC directory)
  • You choose what contact information you enter when registering a domain
  • Domain privacy needs to be renewed each year (done at the same time as renewing your domain name)

Hopefully, this information helps clarify what domain privacy is, and help you to make the right decision.

What do I get when I buy domain privacy for a NZ domain name?
