I don’t usually talk much about the ‘leading lights’ of online marketing because I don’t believe that they should necessarily be followed as sacred cows (no Seth Godin pun intended). But I do believe they offer an interesting perspective on the changing face of marketing in the 21st century. And since the thoughts of these guys are so accessible it’s never been easier to get input from the likes of Seth Godin, David Meerman Scott, Aaron Wall or David Weinberger. A quick Google search and 20 seconds later you’re reading their inspirational musings – for free.
In fact, you may even wonder why they happily provide such valuable information for the price of a cold shower. It comes down to the ‘bikini principle’ and if you’re wondering what that is, well that’s a post for another day.
For now I just wanted to pass this on because even if you only have a mild interest in marketing, SEO or shameless self-promotion then you’ll find this eBook a worthwhile download. It contains the pithy thinkings ofรย some of the sharpest minds in online marketing and if nothing else will help you impress the boss as you name drop and talk about the ‘ubiquitous in effect’. And, by way of disclaimer, I don’t endorse everything or anything in this book, I’ll let you make up your own mind and decide for yourself whether the ideas are worth implementing in your own business.
ps The other reason I’m talking about this is because you don’t want to get me started on the miserable Christchurch weather we’re having!
You can download What Matters Now from Seth Godin for free by clicking here (PDF 3Mb)
You are a veritable mine of interesting information. Thanks.

Hi Justin
Thanks for your comments – I agree, it’s probably something to do with the synergy of hanging out with smart people ๐
Appreciate the source mention – always nice when someone (who isn’t spam) stops by and leaves a comment!
WRT the bikini principle – if for some reason I don’t get to blog about it, I’ll give you a quick precis of what it is. Essentially it refers to how a lot of knowledge workers on the web are giving away a great deal of good information but they know that there will always be someone or some firm that will happily pay them good money to ‘go all the way’ just for them. Hopefully the parallel with a bikini is now a little clearer – let me know if it isn’t!
I’m half way through it. Despite endorsement or not, these guys, Seth include, are worth reading. New ideas and perspectives come easy for these guys.
Look forward to the bikini principle.
fyi – found you on a twitter stream. I follow the keyword “Godin”. Thought you might want to know where I came from.
best,
Justin
