[...] a certain amount of angst if they get sunny weather down there, after what I said about the fair city of Dunedin. Great to see you guys – come back soon; global warming should have kicked in by then. [...]

Thanks Jen you make some good points and for what it's worth I did actually say that I had a really nice time overall - I just decided to pick on the things I found disturbing because they're funnier, and because I was jumping on the Dunedin-bashing bandwagon that was rolling through town at the time.

Six years? That's a long time to perfect the art of the pub crawl!

Thanks for your comment - as you can tell I don't get that many :)

Just a few things.
First of all, you can't judge Dunners on one crappy weekend - like Wellington it's unreliable, but usually has stunning, hot, long summer days. Winter, obviously, is shocking, but spring and autumn are much nicer than the Capital. And at least it doesn't rain every day, like in Auckland.
Secondly, it's pastime. As in, to pass time, but with the second 's' elided.
Thirdly, you can't say Dunedin's had "a ridiculous slogan change" until they've actually changed the slogan. At the moment the Council's still in search mode, I understand.
Fourthly, why on earth would you go to a new city and but coffee at Starbucks? There are heaps of great cafes in Dunedin - Modaks, Governors, Capers, and most of the Octagon, all of which are walking distance from the Purveyor Of Crap 'Coffee' - yet you choose to frequent a boring replicant whose clone can be found in almost any city in the world (more's the pity). I think that says a lot about why you didn't enjoy Dunedin.
Also, just FTR, I don't live in Dunedin, but I studied there from 2003-2008 (that's 6 years, for those who find counting hard) and really enjoyed it. I'd never move back there, because it isn't big enough to support the types of firms I want to work with, but for a holiday it's still a wicked place.
I do agree that peeing on your dad should result in violence, though, especially if said "small child" was in fact that, rather than a baby with a leaky nappy.
